Slow going, but going!!!

It's only been about a month since I made my first purse but somehow, it feels like I've been doing it for much longer... So far, I've made about 6 purses total, but I'm hoping to make that number a bit bigger by the end of the week. The tough part is trying to find time with my schedule...

First off, I work from about 9ish to 6ish at my day job (it helps pay for my new fabric addiction, as well as, you know, rent and food, lol). The commute is pretty brutal and takes about an hour and a half each way, so that's about 11 to 12 hours of my day already. Then, four times a week, I do fitness classes at Dhoonya Dance and Physique 57 to keep me from getting to be too much of a pudgy pudgester. Saturdays, I do fabric runs where I explore a bunch of shops to get inspired, and buy any necessities I may need.

My biggest problem is that I am so excited to finish the purse that when I start (which is usually pretty late to begin with), I want to keep going until I'm done, and then I'm up until 2 or so making the finishing touches and then basking in the prettiness. lol

How I love the prettiness!

A look at some of the ones I made so far...

The purse that started it all!

My first attempt with an antique brass frame! One of my good friends (who was the recipient of this purse) spent an entire weekend in Mexico with this little clutch in tow! So flattered!

Inside,  I used  a light pink silk charmeuse...btw, I love my labels! :)

My "Helloha Pretty Purse!" I made this from a dress I loved to wear when I was a teen. I feel a little old knowing that in about five years, I can probably call this vintage!!!

Lined with silk charmeuse, and my second attempt at pockets! (which are a pain, but the functionality makes it all worth it, I think!)
My first attempt at an all silk purse!
The fabric I used for this was a printed "ombre" silk chiffon. The blues gradated, starting with a light, almost gray, blue and ended with a navy blue (not shown here).

My latest: a simple but elegant black silk chiffon purse with dusty rose raw silk lining.

Larger pocket to fit the kinds of stuff you want quick and easy access to (i.e. cash, cards, lipstick....).

My two smaller silk clutches together...
The Love & Sunshine: First Edition Collection. I made six, but only four in my possession...

I'm still slowly building an inventory for people to shop from, but have started taking custom requests if you have ideas about what you want and can't wait to see what's out! I've already got a few customers waiting in the wings, but I'm going as fast as I can! :)

Wishing you a week of Love & Sunshine! (even though the forecast is calling for rain!booooo!!!)

Huzzah! My Very First Post!

Hello lovely people of the internets!

Welcome to Love and Sunshine by Joyce (that's me!).

In a city where sometimes people and life in general can be rude and cruel and bring you down, I started to sew at home after a bad day to feel more sunshine-y. The sound of the sewing machine would just lure me in and I found joy in the awesome process of creating something new and beautiful.

Making things takes a bit of time and effort, which means a bit less sleep for me, but the prettiness in the end is worth it. I do something I love to make something pretty and now I hope that the pretty I make will make others feel sunshine-y too. After all, you can never have TOO many things in life that make you happy.

I produce custom clutches for women who love pretty, handmade things that are made just for them! Some ladies let me choose what kind of pretty to make for them, and some have some ideas of their own that I can bring to life. However the process comes about, the end result is the same: a beautiful, one-of-a-kind purse; my version of love and sunshine.

In the coming weeks, I hope to post more about the purses I've been making; what inspires me; and hopefully (sooner, rather than later), I can launch my etsy shop (LOVEnSUNSHINEbyJOYCE.etsy.com) for lovely peoples of the internet (and the world) outside of New York City!

Until then...

Wishing you lots of love and sunshine,
Joyce :)
